Table tennis comes to Medway Park

This weekend sees the Grand Prix circus move on to Medway Park for the Medway Bribar Open Grand Prix.

Saturday’s play is as usual the banded singles events, where players compete with players close to their own ranking.

On Sunday the play moves on to the Open Singles events where all players battle it out to be crowned the champion.

Once again the seeds for the Men’s Singles represent a variety of countries; Ryan Jenkins leads the way for Wales with Scotland’s Gavin Rumgay close behind in 2nd seed position.

Hoping to stop these two Grand Prix giants from reaching the final will be Northampton’s Chris Doran and Ireland’s Paul McCreery both of which are studying for degrees in Nottingham. Matt Ware, Stephen Jenkins, David McBeath and Niall Cameron will all be hoping to get into the action at the final stages.

In the Women’s Singles Japan’s Yuko Tsuji, the winner at the Liverpool Grand Prix, tops the seeded players. Seeded to join her in what should be a close fought final is Middlesex’s Egle Adomelyte. Lauren Spink and Emma Vickers will be trying to upset the favourites to take a place in the final. Also hoping to get themselves in the mix will be Yolanda King, Angharad Phillips, Gillian Edwards, Megan Phillips and Making her return from injury Natalie Slater.

Spectators to the event are more than welcome; the main singles events commence from 9am on Sunday the 6th of November 2011, at Medway Park, Mill Road, Gillingham, Kent, ME7 1HF.
